Patrick Hughes’ parents were elated to welcome a baby boy into their family. Dad dreamed of playing catch in the yard with his son, going fishing and embarking upon many father-son adventures.
But those plans were quickly dashed. Patrick was born without eyes, and the ligaments supporting his limbs could not stretch to allow his arms and legs to straighten. Eventually he was outfitted with artificial eyes and used a wheelchair, but it was when he was first propped up at the family’s piano that he stunned everyone.
Mom pressed a key on the piano and in just one or two tries, Patrick would find the same key. It didn’t take long before the toddler could adeptly play back songs after hearing them just once.
