Willie Nelson is arguably one of the greatest living legends of country music. But the 85-year-old singer/songwriter seems to have passed on some of his musical genes to his son Lukas Nelson. That’s right, an unexpected performance during a late-night ‘jam session’ saw Willie’s son Lukas take the microphone and croon out an incredible rendition of one of his father’s iconic songs, “Always On My Mind“.

I’m sure there’s a lot of you out there that don’t know that Lukas Nelson is also a budding musician, just like his father. He’s part of a group called “Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real”. The group regularly tour around America, sharing their rock music with the world.
But this performance from Lukas Nelson doesn’t come with the comfort of having his band by his side. This is a very impromptu performance of “Always On My Mind” with just his vocals and a man on piano. Honestly, it sounds so pure and beautiful!
Willie Nelson released the hit song 35 years ago and it feels like it hasn’t aged a day. With Lukas singing his own version, it sounds as though it could have been released last week. We don’t know what Willie thought about this performance, but we’re sure he’s very proud of his son and most likely humbled by his rendition. I guess the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Willie will definitely have been impressed with Lukas’ heartfelt rendition of one of his greatest songs.
