We are accustomed to rescue stories about humans rescuing abandoned and dejected animals. But this story is a little bit different. In fact, it is a flip flop of the usual.
Buenos Aires, Argentina is home to a dog named La China who rescued a newborn human baby from likely death. La China has a heart of gold, much like mothers of many other species. She is a street dog who had recently given birth to a litter of her own puppies and was mothering them beautifully.
One fateful day, she came across someone who desperately needed her help. La China had always managed to survive, and now she had several additional pups to look after. However, that didn’t stop her from taking action for this helpless little creature that had nobody else to depend on.
It was winter in Argentina, and while La China might not know about feeding a human baby, her maternal instincts knew that the baby certainly wouldn’t survive without some warmth. Several reports are conflicting on this part, but we do know that La China found a way. Some say she ran back to her puppies and carried them one by one to place around the newborn. Others say she somehow carried or dragged the baby to her safe place with her own litter. Either way, she then wrapped her body around the group the best she could.
The next morning, a resident heard the cries of the newborn. Upon investigation, everyone was in absolute shock at what was found. This seemingly stray dog had taken in an abandoned baby as one of her own. Authorities were immediately notified.
The baby was rushed to the emergency room for prompt medical attention. Doctors truly believe if it weren’t for the dog’s heroic actions, the baby would’ve passed away. La China was deemed a local hero.
She was taken in by a local shelter where she and her puppies would be cared for until they could find forever homes. Not that we needed help loving dogs more, but this story certainly boosts that love for them!!
