‘The Temptations’ is an American male vocal group with a Grammy Award. It’s one of the most successful bands working under the Motown label. The stage has been performing for almost 50 years in such musical directions as rhythm and blues, du-vop, funk, disco, soul and music for adults. The team was founded in 1960 in Detroit, Michigan. Originally it was called ‘The Elgins’.
The group consisted of at least five vocalists-dancers. ‘The Temptations’ are known for their recognizable choreography, special sound, and catchy costumes. It is believed that ‘The Temptations’ had the same impact on the development of soul, as ‘The Beatles’ on pop and rock. The group sold tens of millions of copies of their albums and is one of the most successful bands in musical history.
The authority in the world of music ‘The Temptations’ earned back in the 1960s. They are the second for the duration of cooperation with the label Motown – 40 years (the longest recorded on it was Stevie Wonder). Still, continue to perform and since 2007 are recorded under the label Universal Records. Initially, the composition was formed from participants of two Detroit bands: ‘The Distants’ which included the second tenor Otis Williams, the first tenor Elbridge ‘Al’ Bryant and the bass Melvin Franklin. And from ‘The Primes’ were the first tenor/falsetto Eddie Kendricks and the second tenor/baritone Paul Williams. The composition of the team changed over the years.
