When Chrissy and Larry Corbitt found out they were expecting a baby, they were overjoyed! With four older children, the thought of adding another member to the Corbitt crew was too exciting to bear. But, as the months wore on, Chrissy’s stomach expanded more than it had with any other pregnancy. Were they having twins? Was something seriously wrong?
Despite their concerns, only one baby was present during each ultrasound and all signs pointed to a healthy pregnancy. Doctors concluded that her massive stomach meant the child Chrissy was carrying was going to be huge! Thankfully, the rest of Chrissy’s pregnancy went off without a hitch and she gave birth via C-section. But the moment Chrissy looked at her little girl, something shocking met her eye.
Instead of a large newborn like she expected, a toddler-like child stared back at her. She told Inside Edition, “When they held her around the curtain for me I just couldn’t believe how big she was. I felt like I was looking at a toddler, I was like oh my God, she’s gonna walk to the nursery.”
As soon nurses cleaned up Carleigh and checked her for immediate health issues, they rushed her over to the scale. This baby was one of the biggest they’ve ever seen — and by the size of Chrissy’s stomach before, it was safe to assume that she weighed well over 10 pounds. Sure enough, 13 pounds five ounces popped up on the scale’s screen. What a massive newborn! Nurses couldn’t get typical newborn diapers to fit — they had to go several sizes up to find a diaper that worked. When Mom and Dad brought Carleigh home they had to ditch the newborn onesies and buy clothing for a nine-month-old child! Learn more about Carleigh’s big welcome into the world here.
