Ten-year-old Calum Courtney loves to sing whenever he gets a chance. Although he is autistic, it hasn’t stopped him from getting in front of strangers and singing a tune.
“Calum has high-functioning autism. For Calum, this means blurred social boundaries, struggles with school, and difficulties with friendships. But also that enables him to have no fear to get up and belt out a song,” his mom, Tupney, explained. “He has no nerves. If there’s an audience, if there’s anybody from 1 to 100 people to sing in front of, he loves it. He just loves to sing.”
His most recent stage was at a busy grocery store. The brave young boy stepped into the middle of the floor and began singing a beautiful cover of Smokey Robinson’s “Who’s Lovin’ You” for shoppers. The video was just meant for his dad, but the family shared his incredible talent on Facebook.
His mom explained that they call his autism his “superpower,” because it allows him to get in front of people without fears or nerves and do what he loves most: sing.
As you’ll hear in the video, Calum has an extraordinary voice for someone his age! His mom said people thought it was just the speakers. His beautiful voice even caught the attention of music producers, who want to work with him!
