Cooking Chicken Inside Watermelon

Got your attention?  This is not a joke.  Cooking chicken inside a watermelon turns a fruit into a pot.  How do you think it turns out?

Yes, we were scratching our heads too.  But sometimes it’s fun just see what would happen “if”.  It turns out that this technique kind of makes sense in that a watermelon is the shape of a pot, has a lid and produces liquid for cooking.

The folks at You Made What sure do have some fun in the kitchen and show us that, sometimes, it can be an adventure to turn recipes on their heads.  Try experimenting a little yourself and you may end up with a favorite new dish!

Here’s what you need to try this yourself:

1 very large watermelon (duh;)
roaster chicken, about 5 to 6 pounds
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
1 lemon
1/2 cup soy sauce
1 teaspoon five-spice powder
2 tablespoons chilled butter

This video is definitely worth watching and then watching it over and over. It will take just a few minutes and you won’t regret the time spent on it.
